Quality monitoring
In India, information about the fuel quality monitoring system is not accessible to the public, except when there is news about problems with vehicles.
According to oil marketing companies, there is a fuel quality monitoring system in place. However, it is regulated by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MOPNG), with all results submitted to the ministry.
Occasionally, an independent non-governmental organization such as the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), which is based in New Delhi, carries out an independent inspection of fuel quality at fuel dispensing stations, oil depots and tank lorries. However, this is only when some problems have occurred, e.g. adulteration.
