Recent developments
In June 2021, China’s General Administration of Customs imposed new import taxes on several refined petroleum blending components, consequently affecting gasoline production from teapot and private refineries.
In December 2021, the Beijing municipality implemented a local gasoline standard, Beijing 6B, which is more stringent than the current national gasoline standard, China VIB. The Beijing 6B gasoline standard introduced two new limits on maximum content of chlorine and silicon, and reduced the maximum limit of aromatics and olefins content.
In January 2023, the Chinese government started implementation of China VIB gasoline nationwide. The major change in the standard is the maximum limit of olefins content, reduced from 18% v/v to 15% v/v.
