Regulations
The National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) publishes setting vehicles exhaust emission limits. No fuel economy and carbon dioxide (CO2) emission standards have been adopted yet in South Africa.
The NRCS was established in 2008 as an independent organisation within the area of responsibility of the Department of Trade and Industry. The NRCS’s mandate includes environmental protection, achieved through the development and administration of technical regulations and compulsory specifications, as well as through market surveillance to ensure compliance with the requirements of the specifications and regulations. The NRCS stakeholders include the South African Government, industry and citizens.
