Supply and Demand
The consumption of diesel and gasoline in 2014 is shown in the figure below. When considering the total volume in the region, diesel was the main fuel consumed, amounting to 54% of the total fuel consumed. Diesel is also the main fuel consumed in each country.

In South Africa, the consumption of the lead replacement petrol grades declined in recent years, amounting to 5% of the volume consumed in 2016. The consumption of grades with research octane number (RON) 95 increased to reach 71% in 2016 and about 80% in 2019.
