The table below summarizes the situation per country regarding the legislative limits on vehicles exhaust emissions, restriction in imported vehicles, future plans and composition of the vehicles fleet.

Most vehicles in West Africa are used vehicles imported from Europe, Japan and the U.S. Some countries such as Côte d’Ivoire have assembly facilities for new vehicles. However, assembly activity is minimal and mostly involves final assembly of partly assembled vehicles.

Most West African countries do not regulate vehicle exhaust emissions. The countries with limit on exhaust emissions are Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal.
