Lifecycle greenhouse gas emission reduction target
According to the on pollution, from December 31, 2021, there is no an obligation on fuel suppliers to reduce life cycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per unit of energy from fuel and energy supplied in transport, by at least 6% by December 31, 2020 and each year following, compared with the fuel baseline standard of value of 94.1 gCO2eq/MJ.
According to the latest national energy and climate plan of Latvia in July 2024, the plan is to set a target of 14.5% for the reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity in transport by 2030. This has not been enforced yet in national legislation.
