Octane enhancers
Many types of octane enhancer are used by refiners to increase the octane in gasoline. This section analyzes the use of metallic additives and oxygenates. In Germany, ethanol and ethers (ethyl tert-butyl ether (ETBE), and methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE)) are the major octane enhancers used since 2015. There is also some use of tert-amyl methyl ether (TAME) and tert-amyl ethyl ether (TAEE).
