Tax and subsidy
The Singapore government does not grant direct subsidies, although it may set preferential taxes occasionally, depending on specific circumstances.
The upfront costs (excluding the vehicle’s base price) of owning a car in Singapore consist of:
•A registration fee
•An additional registration fee
•A quota premium for a Certificate of Entitlement
•Road tax
•Excise duty
The value of those taxes and fees varies depending on the type of vehicles, i.e. car, taxi, motorcycle or scooter, goods vehicle, bus or engineering plant.
