Per ethanol grade
Since 2010, the sale of gasoline of the grade RON 95 E5 (with bioethanol content up to 5% v/v) and gasoline RON 98 E10 (with bioethanol content up to 10% v/v) is permitted. We observed two grades on the market: RON 95 E5 and RON 98 E10. The latter grade contains a very limited amount of bioethanol. It is important to note, that the EU labeling standard does not indicate how to label gasoline that oxygen content is higher than 2.7% m/m, but ethanol content is up to 5% v/v.
For now, Portugal has not indicated a timeline for the introduction of RON 95 E10 grade. Most of the locally used ethanol and bio-ETBE is imported.
