Recent developments
In August 2024, the Jakarta Municipality announced it would enforce a twice-yearly emission test for vehicles. These test results are to be used as the pre-requisite document for renewing vehicle license plates. Failure to comply with this mandatory test will result in penalties, including paying the highest parking fees.
A year before that, Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry published Ministerial Regulation No. 8 of 2023 on the emission standards for in-use vehicles categories M, N, O and L.
In April 2022, the government implemented Euro 4 equivalent emissions standards for diesel vehicles.
