Recent developments

As of March 2024, the Bapco Energies (previously Bapco) Sitra refinery upgrading project, known as the Bapco Modernization Program (BMP), is ongoing. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the original plan for commissioning in 2022 was delayed to the last quarter of 2024.

The BMP aims to increase the Sitra refinery’s nameplate capacity from 267,000 barrels/day (b/d) to 380,000 b/d, increase the ability to process heavier and sourer crude petroleum and improve the quality of refined petroleum products.
