Octane enhancers
Depending on the crude oil quality and refinery process, refiners may be able to comply with the standard octane rating. Refiners can increase the octane rating by adding octane enhancers. Several types of octane enhancer are commonly used:
•Metallic additive:
•Oxygenates:
At present, methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) is the octane enhancer most commonly used.
This section provides an overview of octane enhancers found in the gasoline/gasohol samples.
