Non-compliance penalties

Depending on the Greek Minister of Environment and Energy’s decision, a fine shall be imposed on those who violate the biofuel sustainability obligations.

The amount of the fine is proportional to the gravity, frequency and consequences of the infringement, the degree of fault and any recidivism of the offender. If a convicted criminal commits a re-offence, within 3 years from the imposition of a fine for biofuel sustainability violations, commits a new infringement.

The fine ranges from EUR 1,000 to EUR 1,000,000. The limits of the fine may be adjusted by the Greek Minister of Environment and Energy.
