Current regulatory backdrop on biofuel and feedstocks

The EU Renewable Energy Directive 2009/28/EC (RED I) sustainability criteria has not been transposed in Albania and therefore, biofuels used in the country is non-compliant to the EU provisions. Currently, biofuels account for up to 10% of the fuel market and as such, this cannot be accounted towards the renewable energy share target in transport. The overall renewable energy target in 2020 was 38%, and this was extended to be achieved by the end of 2021.
