Sulfur
Sulfur is a key component that naturally occurs in crude oil. It reduces the capability of emission control systems and increases air pollution. High sulfur crude petroleum is more expensive to refine as well as needing a more complex refining process to reduce its content in refined petroleum products. Therefore, sulfur is still found in them.
There is one gasoline grade in terms of sulfur in Tanzania and it should meet a maximum limit of 150 mg/kg.
According to the SGS Worldwide Fuel Survey, sulfur content in gasoline has complied with the regulatory limit since 2011, the first year of results. In 2021, the average content of sulfur in gasoline was 25 mg/kg.
