Recent developments
On January 3, 2025, Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources increased the biodiesel mandate from 35% v/v (B35) to 40% v/v (B40), effective immediately. However, the government granted a one-month grace period until the end of February 2025 for the national oil company Pertamina, to allow them to prepare for the change.
B40 is mandated for diesel used in all sectors, with exceptions in high mountainous areas, and also for diesel used by the military and by the National Electricity Company’s diesel power generators, which are incompatible with high biodiesel blending.
