UK legislative process
In the UK 2050 Transport decarbonization plan, the UK Department for Transport (DfT) proposed several commitments for the transport sector to achieve net zero by 2050. These commitments, based on previous studies and research, require further input from experts, relevant stakeholders and the public. This input comes in the form of public consultations which seek opinions for a limited period and inform DfT’s decision to further proceed. Depending on the DfT’s decision, mandatory targets are enforced in existing or new legislations.
