Policies supporting the establishment of electric vehicle charging stations and hydrogen refueling stations
On October 7, 2021, New Zealand’s government launched the low emission transport fund (LETF), which includes co-funding public EV chargers.
Furthermore, the government may reduce the distance between chargers and/or increase the number of charging points in current locations.
Also in 2021, the government announced a fund of NZD 20 million (USD 12.46 million) for Hiringa Energy, for establishing a hydrogen refueling station (HRS) network. Under this initiative, eight HRS will be built, one each in Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Taranaki, Manawatu, Auckland, Taupo, Wellington, and Christchurch. However, no further details about these HRS are available at this stage.
