Octane grades
The EU on fuel quality sets minimum mandatory requirements for gasoline distributed in the EU. The EU Directive requires member states to transpose these requirements into national legislation to ensure a common market for gasoline vehicles. The Directive rules that a minimum research octane number (RON) is 95 and motor octane number (MON) is 85. Member states may decide to continue to permit the placing on the market of gasoline grades with a minimum MON of 81 and a minimum RON of 91.
