Fuel ethanol production capacity
There are twenty-four ethanol plants in Argentina, with a total production capacity of 1,630 million liters per year (including ethanol production for other non-fuel use.). Sixteen plants use sugarcane (
Sacharum officinarum L.
) as feedstock and eight use corn (
Zea mays
). Argentina did not announce any investment in a new biofuels plant in 2022. The latest addition was the expansion capacity of the largest corn ethanol plant in Cordoba province. The highest concentration of sugarcane bioethanol production plants occurs in the Argentine Northwest, while those that process corn are mainly located in the province of Cordoba (although there are also plants in Santa Fe and San Luis).
