In Taiwan, motorcycles are the primary mode of transportation. As of 2023, motorcycles accounted for 62.9% of the total vehicle fleet, followed by passenger vehicles at 31.7%.

Since 2014, the number of registered vehicles in Taiwan has steadily increased from 21.3 million to 23.1 million in 2023, an 8.7% rise over the past decade. According to statistics from the Highway Bureau, the number of registered motorcycles fluctuated between 13 and 14 million. In contrast, vehicle growth has primarily been driven by four-wheelers, especially passenger vehicles, which grew from 7.2 million to 7.3 million in 2023.
