Imports and exports

As shown in the figure below, the use of bio-based gasoline in Italy remained limited until 2023. However, imports saw a significant increase, rising more than 2.6 times between 2017 and 2023, reaching 50,479 tonnes in 2023. In Italy, the incorporation of bio-ETBE (ethyl tert-butyl ether) into gasoline is more prevalent compared to direct bioethanol blending.

Due to its limited domestic production and dependence on imports to meet internal demand, Italy does not export bio-based gasoline.
