This section describes the legal requirements related to biofuel blending mandates, sustainability criteria, life cycle greenhouse gas emissions and the renewable energy policy applicable to transport.
Bio-based gasoline mandates
The Directive (EU) 2018/2001 of December 11, 2018, on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources (also referred to as RED II) was transposed into Romanian legislation through the Emergency Ordinance No. 163 of November 29, 2022.
According to the Emergency Ordinance No. 163 of November 29, 2022, the renewable energy share (RES) target in transport sector is 14% by 2030.
The food and feed crop-based biofuels are capped at 7% by energy content.
