On April 10, 2024, the European Parliament approved the provisional agreement on Regulation (EU) 2019/1242, setting CO2 emission standards for new heavy-duty vehicles (HDV) in the EU. This legislation establishes the following CO2 emission reduction targets for new HDVs:
    A 45% reduction by 2030
    A 65% reduction by 2035
    A 90% reduction by 2040
Additionally, new urban buses must achieve a 90% emission reduction by 2030 (compared with 2019 levels), transitioning to net-zero by 2035, while trailers and semi-trailers must reduce emissions by 7.5% and 10%, respectively, starting from 2030.
Negotiations on the regulation have been going on for several months between the two main EU legislative bodies.
