Azerbaijan: development of national hydrogen strategy

Azerbaijan has included the development of hydrogen production in various strategic documents, including the primary strategy of the country's socioeconomic development, which incorporates sections on the development of the hydrogen industry and the use of its resources for the domestic market and export.

The potential for wind generation on Azerbaijan's side of the Caspian Sea is estimated at 157 GW, which exceeds the country's needs. Consequently, Azerbaijan plans to use the excess energy to produce green hydrogen and is cooperating with the EU to export it to the European market in the future along the so-called green energy corridors: Caspian Sea—Black Sea—Europe and Central Asia—Azerbaijan—Europe.
