EU: The Council of the EU adopts CO₂ emission standards for HDVs

On May 13, 2024 the Council of the EU finally adopted new regulations to tighten CO₂ emission standards for heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs). These updated standards aim to further reduce CO₂ emissions from road transport, setting new targets for 2030, 2035 and 2040. Earlier in April the regulation was approved by the European Parliament (EP). Details are available in the SGS INSPIRE news item, the EP approves HDV emission standards.

The next step for the regulation is its signing and publication in the EU's Official Journal. It will come into force 20 days after this.
