China: hydrogen update on the Q1 2024

In the first quarter of 2024, the Chinese government issued over 30 policies pertaining to the hydrogen industry. SGS INSPIRE selected the important policies and reported them in the China hydrogen report.

Among these, the hydrogen policy of Hainan province stands out. Situated in the southern part of China, Hainan is an island with a thriving port economy due to its strategic location. Consequently, the local government has outlined plans to produce green hydrogen for subsequent conversion into green ammonia and methanol for vessel fuel. At present, the government is developing the offshore windmill to produce renewable energy.

Moreover, in August 2022, the Hainan government set a goal to ban the sale of
