Spain: SAF and other renewable fuels allowed to meet transport targets

According to Royal Decree 376/2022 of May 17, 2024, regulating the criteria for sustainability and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from biofuels, bioliquids and biomass fuels, as well as the system of guarantees of origin of renewable gases, Spain's biofuel target is set at 11% in 2024, increasing to 12% by 2026.

In addition, on July 15, 2024, the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge published Order TED/728/2024, which develops the mechanism for promoting biofuels and other renewable fuels for transport purposes. The order retains the current targets but enhances the promotion of renewable energies in transport over fossil fuels through several improvements:
