Netherlands: draft regulation to implement the Renewable Energy Directive III published

The Netherlands has published a draft amendment to Besluit Energie Vervoer, the Dutch Energy for Transport Decree, to implement the revised EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED III), Directive (EU) 2023/2413, shifts focus from energy-based targets to CO2 emissions reductions across supply chains.

Under the updated legislation, fuel suppliers in the Netherlands are obligated to achieve specific annual reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, culminating in a 14.5% reduction by 2030 across all transport sectors. Each transport sector has been assigned unique sub-obligations, considering its technical capacity, energy demands, and the cost-effectiveness of renewable fuel adoption.
