On January 7, 2025, the drafted legislation transposing EU Renewable Energy Directive 2018/2001 on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources (also referred to as RED II) was approved by the Polish Council of Ministers for implementation into Polish Law.
Based on the drafted legislation, the renewable energy share target for the transport sector is 14.9% by 2030, compared with 14% in RED II. Some of the targets came into effect on January 1, 2025 under the Polish Law of August 26, 2006 on biocomponents and liquid biofuels (Biofuels Law). The remaining transposition will be in force from April 1, 2025 according to the Polish government website.
