On July 1, 2025, the Minister for Energy and Mineral Development of Uganda announced, during a media briefing, that the national biofuels blending programme will begin from January 2026.
As part of the programme, a biofuel mandate of 5% v/v of ethanol must be blended into gasoline starting from January 2026, increasing to 20% v/v in line with the targets set in the Biofuels Act. The launch, as announced by the Minister, includes a six-month incubation period from July 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025, during which key stakeholders, mainly oil marketing companies, will adapt to blending standards and operational requirements.
