Hong Kong: government launches incentive scheme to boost green marine fuel bunkering

On June 30, 2025, the Hong Kong Marine Department officially implemented the Green marine fuel bunkering incentive scheme, offering subsidies of up to HKD 2 million (USD 250,000) per eligible company to promote the adoption of alternative marine fuels. The scheme is designed to position Hong Kong as a high-quality green bunkering hub and encourage shipping companies to lead in the use of sustainable fuels

The incentive focuses on promoting liquefied natural gas (LNG) and green methanol. Companies that complete the first two LNG or green methanol bunkering operations within one year following approval of their risk assessment by the Marine Department will receive HKD 500,000 (USD 63,700) per operation.
