On July 30, 2025, the U.S. government published the Executive Order Addressing Threats to the United States by the Government of Brazil, imposing an additional 40% ad valorem duty rate and bringing the total tariff to 50% as of August 6, 2025. These tariffs directly impact the exports of biofuels and biofuels feedstocks from Brazil to the U.S. including ethanol, sugar, soybean oil and tallow.
However, the executive order included exceptions for those goods outlined in Annex I to this regulation, including:
    Minerals/elements/materials like iron ore, aluminum oxide, silicon, crude mica, ferroniobium, ferronickel, tin waste and scrap, tin ore and concentrates, tin chlorides, metallurgical grade alum
