Latin America is a global biofuel powerhouse, especially ethanol and biodiesel, and has strong potential to expand into SAF and advanced biofuels.
SGS INSPIRE will host a webinar discussion on biofuel markets and feedstocks in Latin America. Biofuels offer economic and climate opportunities for the region, in a context where global competition, EV growth and sustainable agricultural practices are key elements to factor in.
Objective
SGS INSPIRE and expert Agustin Torroba will analyze the current state and future prospects of the global biofuel market, with a focused overview of Latin America’s role, identifying key opportunities, challenges, and strategic implications for energy transition, investment, and policy-making up to 2040. The goal is to inform stakeholders on how Latin America can leverage its biofuel potential and present key findings from SGS INSPIRE brand new Global Fuels Outlook 2040.

Agustín Torroba
International Specialist in Biofuels and Renewable Energies at the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA)

Agustín Torroba holds a degree in Economics, a Master’s in Energy from the University of Buenos Aires, and a Diploma in Energy Economics and Energy Planning. He also holds a Diploma in Project Evaluation for Renewable Energies and Energy Storage from the University of the Center for Macroeconomic Studies of Argentina (UCEMA).

He served as an advisor to the former Ministry of Energy and Mining of Argentina and was the National Director of Biofuels. He is the author of specialized papers, books, and book chapters on biofuels and energy. He has been a guest lecturer at the University of Buenos Aires and Universidad Austral.

Currently, he is an International Specialist in Biofuels and Renewable Energies at the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), a specialized agency of the Organization of American States (OAS), and he serves as the Technical and Executive Secretary of the Pan American Coalition on Liquid Biofuels (CPBIO).

Henry Gomez
Market Analyst for Latin America and the Caribbean, SGS INSPIRE

Henry joined SGS INSPIRE in August 2022, as a market analyst covering Latin American and the Caribbean region. He is experienced in energy-related issues, mostly as technical support in oil commerce. He has a strong knowledge of trade and international oil policy and business development, including market monitoring, identification of new opportunities, and valuation to access new markets.

He has 13 years of experience researching, planning, pricing, forecasting and market analysis worldwide. Before joining SGS INSPIRE, Henry was a Senior Oil Market Analyst in the oil industry, forecasting crude oil and its product prices and evaluating the commercial value of different grades of crude oil and refining products. He prepared various market reports and performed heavy crude price forecasts with netback parity using dedicated software and tools, considering market fundamentals simultaneously. Previously, he was a Planning Analyst at the National Oil Company of Venezuela, developing strategic plans.

He is a Geochemistry professional with a Master’s Degree in Politics and International Oil Trade.
