Conclusions

 

Expectations for increased ethanol use in the U.S. based on approval of the RVP waiver for E15 should be tempered because of anticipated legal challenges, infrastructure needs including new pumps and underground storage tanks, consumer acceptance, and legacy vehicle fleet.  Most auto manufacturers are now accepting the use of E15 in their new vehicles, and additional model lines are expected to begin to warranty its use.  Consequently, E15 expansion will occur only slowly in favorable markets such as the Midwest.  Wider use across the U.S., however, will take many years to happen.
