Other alternative gasoline mandates
At present, Malaysia’s government does not mandate the use of natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as an alternative to gasoline.
However, in 1998, it introduced the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) for taxis. The government promoted CNG as a transportation fuel by allowing sales at a price 55% lower than gasoline.
At present, no vehicles run on LPG. However, in January 2019, Astana City Group Sdn Bhd, through its partner, Pap Econ Co. Ltd., submitted a third national car project proposal to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry. The company proposed that the vehicle be fueled solely with LPG. The launch of the prototype LPG vehicle was expected in the first quarter of 2019. However, no further information is available.
