Cetane Enhancers

No specification limits the use of cetane improvers in West Africa.

The cetane improver 2-Ethylhexyl nitrate (EHN) was detected since 2012 in all the diesel samples of Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Mauritania, Nigeria and Senegal, in concentrations up to 1,250 mg/kg.

However, EHN concentrations dropped in Ghana in 2017, with samples below 10 mg/kg, and in Mali in 2018 below 100 mg/kg.
