Recent developments
In December 2021, the Beijing municipality implemented the latest Beijing 6B diesel standard, DB11/239-2021. The major differences compared to the China VI diesel standard were the maximum limits of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and fatty-acid methyl ester (FAME) content.
In January 2023, all types of diesel fuel used in China are considered as hazardous chemicals. This has had a great impact on diesel production, storage, and trading enterprises.
In September 2024, the Chinese government announced the preparation of draft updates to the national standards for conventional diesel and B5 diesel. However, as of August 2025, there’s no further information release publicly.
