In Australia, national vehicle emission standards are established by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts. This department is responsible for developing and implementing the Australian Design Rules (ADRs), which set national requirements for vehicle emissions, safety, and performance.

Emission standards under the ADRs apply only to new type-approved vehicles, while the emission profiles of in-use vehicles are managed by state and territory governments.
