Biodiesel

Viet Nam’s mandatory diesel standard, QCVN 01:2022/BKHCN, sets a separate standard for B5 (diesel containing up to 5% v/v of biodiesel) with a fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) content limit of 4-5% v/v. However, the specifications do not regulate biodiesel/FAME content in conventional diesel.

There is no B5 sold in the country. The SGS Worldwide Fuels Survey (WWFS) results from diesel samples taken in 2013-2023 showed almost no biodiesel blended with diesel except in 2013 and 2019 where one sample contained biodiesel at 1% v/v and 1.20% v/v, respectively. These results too are very low and could not be considered as B5.
