Fuel economy

Fuel economy/fuel efficiency standards are set by Bureau of Energy Efficiency under the Ministry of Power.

Fuel economy standards are more complex to implement and enforce than exhaust emission standards. This is because emission verification is based on the emissions produced during the testing of each vehicle.

In India, the fuel economy standard is calculated from the corporate average of fuel economy of vehicles sold. Hence it is a sales-weighted corporate average of vehicle fuel consumption.
