Recent developments
In July 2024, India’s Bureau of Energy Efficiency under the Ministry of Power, published the future Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE) standards for the following period:
•CAFE III (2027-2032), with a CO2 emission target of 91.7 g CO2/km
•CAFE IV (2032-2037), with a CO2 emission target of 70 g CO2/km
Several other changes are also introduced in these new standards, including:
•An increase in the average vehicle curb weight from 1,145 kg in CAFE II to 1,170 kg in CAFE III and IV
•A switch the test cycle from the Modified Indian Driving Cycle to the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Cycle
•A change to the volume derogation factor for super credit and CO2-reducing technology
This future CAFE standards were opened for public feedback until July 6, 2024.
