Octane Enhancers

There are many types of octane enhancers used by refiners to increase octane in gasoline. This section analyzes the use of metallic additives and oxygenates. In Sweden, ethanol and ethers (ethyl tertiary butyl ether - ETBE and methyl tert butyl ether - MTBE) are the major octane enhancers used since 2015.
