Hydrocarbons
Generally, diesel naturally contains various hydrocarbons, including aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons. In fact, the aromatic hydrocarbons content directly influences the emission of particulate matter (PM) when combustion occurs.
Moreover, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) are commonly found in diesel. Some studies have shown that PAH are a class of widespread environmental carcinogens. Thus, the reduction of PAH content is important.
SGS Worldwide Fuel Survey (WWFS) results on diesel samples taken from 2016 to 2021 showed that all samples have polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon content below the legislative limit of 8% m/m maximum.
