Liquefied petroleum gas
Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is also used in New Zealand to power vehicles. It was popular back in the 1980s and 1990s. The use of auto LPG has been declining, with a reduction of about 12% year-on-year from 2003 to 2019.
In 2023, about 2,850 tonnes of LPG were consumed by the domestic transportation sector. Automotive LPG sold in New Zealand must meet the specification set in BS EN 589:2018, which is available in the SGS INSPIRE fuel specifications database.
