Timeline for biofuel blending
Ecuador is not expected to significantly increase the biodiesel blending in diesel in the short term due to the diesel subsidies. However, in the mid and long term, if the Ecuadorian government gradually phases out the diesel subsidies, SGS INSPIRE estimates an average of 3 to 4% v/v biodiesel blending from 2025 to 2050.
In a conservative scenario, SGS INSPIRE predicts demand for Premium Diesel is expected to be above 4,150 million liters per year, and the volume of biodiesel blended would be above 125 million liters per year. Consequently, biodiesel imports will probably be necessary.
