Other alternative diesel mandate
The Malaysian government does not mandate the use of natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as an alternative fuel to diesel.
However, it introduced the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) for taxis in 1998. The government promoted CNG as a transportation fuel by allowing sales at a 55% lower price than gasoline.
At the same time, no vehicles run on LPG. In January 2019, Astana City Group Sdn Bhd through its partner, Pap Econ Co. Ltd., submitted a proposal on the third national car project to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry. The company proposed for the vehicle to be solely fueled by LPG. The prototype of the LPG vehicle was expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2019. However, no further information is available.
