Subsidies
Diesel sold in Malaysia is subsidized by the government through regulation of the retail price. However, there is no clear information on exactly how much subsidy is given to diesel.
In 2002, the government introduced a diesel subsidy for land transportation, river passenger boat sectors (Skid Tank) and subsidized diesel purchases (Fleet Card). The Subsidized Diesel Purchase Using Multiple Fleet Card covers the following vehicles:
•Public buses, including school buses, express buses, stage buses, minibuses, and connecting buses
•Rental cars
•Taxis
•Funeral vans and lorries
•Ambulances
•Fire engines
The owners/operators of these vehicles should submit applications for the Subsidized Diesel Control Scheme to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs.
