Recent developments
•In 2018, the UK approved an increase in the renewable energy share target from 4.987% v/v until April, 2018 to 9.180% v/v in December 2019. The renewable energy share in transport should grow to 10.959% v/v by 2032. During this period a major focus is put on increasing drop-in fuels, substitutes to natural gas, hydrogen and alternative aviation fuels. Their share should be 3.196% v/v by 2032
•The majority of the biodiesel consumed is produced from used cooking oil
•The increase in the renewable energy share target has promoted small HVO blending volumes, most of which was produced from used cooking oil
•BREXIT allows the UK to not follow the EU Renewable Energy Directive which shapes the EU’s renewable energy targets at the member state level
