Biodiesel

The current diesel specification, UAE.S 477:2021, sets a maximum limit for biodiesel/fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) at 7% v/v.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government does not set any biodiesel mandates. Thus, domestically produced FAME is usually delivered in bulk directly to the end users, including transportation and logistics companies, and Dubai’s municipal vehicles. Moreover, B5 (diesel containing up to 5% v/v of FAME) is offered to abras (traditional wooden boats which transport passengers on Dubai Creek) operators.

The SGS Worldwide Fuel Survey on diesel samples taken in 2012-2022 showed that all diesel samples may contain biodiesel at a trace level of less than 0.1% v/v.
